Terrapin welcomes Tasmanian artists to hire our charming heritage loft, and also welcomes hires for non-public events such as organisational meetings and planning days.
Our loft is located on the top floor of the Salamanca Arts Centre in Battery Point, Hobart.
Dimensions of the space are approximately 9m x 12m.
The Loft is suitable for rehearsals and workshops, but is not licensed for public performances so you may not invite the general public into the space to see a performance, nor can you publicly advertise an event such as a workshop. You may invite a small audience of peers to see a rehearsal if desired.
The Loft is only accessible via a steep staircase from the lower floor.
Language suitability & audio levels
The Loft is not completely sealed. Spoken word can be heard in galleries and offices underneath the Loft, and amplified audio can be heard throughout the Salamanca Arts Centre. The Loft cannot be used during daytimes (including weekend daytimes) for rehearsal of any script that includes language or themes likely to offend visitors to the galleries. If you are using amplified sound, you are asked to consider our neighbours and keep audio at a reasonable level to enable rehearsal, but not to performance level.
You are welcome to use the kitchen facilities which include:
- Crockery and cutlery
- Coffee and tea making facilities
Staff may require access to the Loft during your hire to access the kitchen and other stored equipment. Staff and contractors of Salamanca Arts Centre many also require access. Access will be kept to a minimum and will as much as possible be arranged to occur during breaks.
