Terrapin Puppet Theatre

Writing for Puppetry Program

Terrapin works with puppetry because it uses empathy to destroy reason.

So we can believe that something is alive that is not.

So we can be reminded of our collective humanity by something that doesn’t have it, but seems to deserve it.

Terrapin works with writers, theatre-makers and dramaturges who are interested in authoring narratives to be told through puppetry.

Examples of such narratives are those that feature non-human characters, allegory and a strong presence of imagery that can be adapted to visual storytelling techniques.

In 2020, following a call out for expressions of interest, the company commissioned 14 treatments from artists. Terrapin now has several projects under commission and in creative development in the Writing for Puppetry program in 2021.
