The Paper Escaper

19 July 2021 - 25 November 2021

The Paper Escaper

5 - 8 October 2023

What happens when a book character won’t stay in their place?

Benny, the plucky puppet protagonist in The Paper Escaper, knows they are destined for greater things than a simple pop-up book. But in a world that’s trying to squash Benny between its pages – from a monstrous chomping sketchpad to a disillusioned illustrator – Benny will need the help of new friends to achieve their dreams.

This bright new puppetry work from Terrapin tells a story of determination, friendship and the power of following your own path.

Paper Wilderness

Welcome to Terrapin’s paper wonderland – created by you! Terrapin’s new production The Paper Escaper imagines an unfolding paper world, where a pop-up book character is looking for more than the story that’s written for them. Join in and make your own paper plant, which will become part of our paper sculpture at Theatre Royal, Hobart.

All items made here will be transported to Theatre Royal for display. Come and visit your creation in the foyer, Sat 7 – Sun 8 Oct

Paper Wilderness is supported by City of Hobart, Fullers Bookshop, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Theatre Royal.
