The WALTZING TREE

PAST SEASONS
2011 May-June: Toured Tasmania

Stranded on either side of the planet are two love-locked ancient trees. Across the seas and down through the ages they have been sharing their secrets and their feelings by shaping the winds, speaking a language which only trees can understand. The day has come when they can no longer stand to be apart. As everyone knows trees can't walk. But maybe, just maybe they can waltz! So begins the journey into a magical rhythmic world where seasons talk and shadows walk. The Waltzing Tree is a tale of ambition, love, uplifting friendships and improbable journeys...brought to life in a rich poetic windblown world.

The Waltzing Tree is a classic story of friendship, dreams and misadventure.

The Waltzing Tree is a highly visual and evocative piece of writing that leads the audience on a path that veers between the familiar and the fantastic. It is a story for children that leaves them wishing it was not over. It has Director Frank Newman’s characteristic playfulness and physicality, cleverly incorporating illusions, live music, technology and an invigorated emphasis on traditional puppetry.

Terrapin has created a show that both draws on our past in the mastery of traditional puppetry, but also reaches to the future with our innovation of the art form with our exploration of digital puppetry.

"Brilliant, subliminal message, storyline, excellent visual media." Mt Nelson Primary School

"The children were very engaged throughout...an amazing performance." St Aloysius Catholic College
