Sally Saber wanted to be a tiger; sharp-toothed, clever, and unafraid. But there was never anything to be scared of. Her mother and father made sure Sally was always safe.
Until one night Sally found she was the only one awake in her dark house. Her parents would not stir – no-one would read her a story until she drifted back to dreams. All the familiar shapes and sounds she knew suddenly turned strange. Everything was changing. Even sleeping mum and dad were sprouting hair and hooves – twisting – into horses!
This would be no ordinary night.
Tonight, Sally’s drab neighbourhood becomes a lush and exotic landscape for her to explore with her parents reigned in and her stuffed toy companion narrating the journey as if they were travelling through pages of a favourite story book. Populated with unforgettable characters and challenges to test her courage and ingenuity, Sally delights in her opportunity to be a big, brave girl. Never before has she felt this independent and free.
Sally is so bold that she wants to be in control of the entire story – she’s sick of being told what to do – she doesn’t need her stuffed toy narrator anymore! But when she’s alone, Sally discovers just how daunting it is to face the unknown.
Perhaps it is nice to be looked after a little.
Perhaps it would be nice to go home again.

Sleeping Horses Lie is a visually-stunning, poetic, and wild tale of transformation. It’s for any child who has ever dreamed of charging off on horseback for the adventure of their lives, and it’s for any child who has wanted to return home, the same, but different.
Theatre for the whole family (recommended 5+).
