TERRAPIN TO TOUR LOCALLY, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY IN 2010

In 2010, Terrapin will perform its shows locally, nationally and internationally.  Terrapin will perform in Shanghai, China and Pittsburgh, USA; it will appear at the Sydney Opera House, the Arts Centre Melbourne, the Adelaide Festival Centre and Hobart’s Theatre Royal; and tour through regional Victoria and every corner of Tasmania.

Artistic Director Frank Newman said: “2010’s program is an exponential leap for Terrapin, as the shows created over the past two years find their respective ways to national and international theatres.  It is an exciting time for the company as the work of many talented Tasmanian artists is seen by an ever-growing audience world-wide”.

Four of Terrapin's shows will hit stages in 2010.

The collaboration with the Children’s Arts Theatre of China, When the Pictures Came, premieres in Shanghai in May, to coincide with World Expo.  This show will be seen by Australian audiences in 2011.

Helena and the Journey of the Hello, which recently toured across Tasmania, will be presented at the Sydney Opera House in June.  The show will also feature in the Spotlight program of the Australian Performing Arts Market in Adelaide in February.

Having previously been seen in Tasmania and South Australia, the production Boats has been invited to be staged in the International Performing Arts for Youth Showcase in Pittsburgh in January.  The show will then have seasons at the Arts Centre Melbourne and the Frankston Arts Centre in June, and tour through regional Victoria in September.

In September, The Gatekeeper opens at the Theatre Royal Hobart before heading off on tour to primary schools across Tasmania.

When The Pictures Came is a collaboration between Terrapin and the Children's Art Theatre of China, in association with the Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham, and Reckless Moments. It is supported by the Australian Government through the Australian International Cultural Council, an initiative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The schools tour of The Gatekeeper is supported by Aurora Energy, and the public performances are presented in association with the Theatre Royal.

The presentation of Boats at the IPAY Showcase in Pittsburgh is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

The Australian Government is proud to be associated with the Victorian regional tour of Boats through the national performing arts touring program, Playing Australia, which gives Australians across the country the opportunity to see some of our best performing arts.
