ARTICULATE
Terrapin’s creative development program

The Articulate program is a new and innovative initiative by Terrapin. Its objectives are to seed new puppet based visual theatre works within the period 2009-2011, which Terrapin will support from initial development stages to professional presentation. Terrapin will place an emphasis on Articulate proposals that engage with the concepts of ‘digital puppetry’. This support given through the Articulate Program will come in the form of:

• 3 weeks free use of rehearsal and workshop space in the Terrapin loft
• Assistance with funding for project costs,
• Dramaturgy/mentoring by the Artistic Director of Terrapin Puppet Theatre,
• A professionally produced season of the Articulate projects, and
• A portion of the box office of the in-theatre season, where appropriate.

The selection criteria that proposals will be judged against are:

• A strong creative rationale that outlines why the applicant wants
to create this new art work,
• How the work will engage the concepts of digital puppetry
• Appropriate skill levels in the artistic team to achieve stated goals, and
• Future professional performance potential.

Projects that fulfil the selection criteria and fit with the strategic directions of the company will be invited to 'pitch' their ideas in person. The pitch is where the applicants get a chance to talk through the idea giving us a clear understanding of what it is they want to create, why they want to do it and how they will put it all together.

Applications for the program are by invitation only.

In 2009, projects by Hanna Parsinnen and Leon Ewing are being supported.

In 2008 the successful applicants were:

Remnants
Created, design and performed by Kate Hill and Theresa O’Connor, and composed by Craig Wood

Arabian Night Delights & The Tale of Two Cooks
Performed and devised by Kirsty Grierson, Mel King and Melinda Mills-Hope.
