Sleeping Horses Lie

TOURING TASMANIA, JUNE - AUGUST 2012

Sally Saber wanted to be a tiger; sharp and unafraid. But there was never anything to fear. Her parents made sure Sally was always safe. Until one night Sally found she was the only one awake in her house. Everything familiar suddenly turned strange.

This would be no ordinary night.

Love

“Love is an amazingly multi-layered piece of visual theatre. It could even be one of those rare shows that burn brightly forever in the memories of the young children who are lucky enough to see it, for there is much here that is memorable.”

With a storm brewing, a small boy helps the people of his community to save the things they love the most - their 'love luggage'. The lyrical and heart driven writing of Finegan Kruckemeyer is brought to life with traditional puppets, digital puppetry using the Xbox Kinect, stunning music and Terrapin’s trademark silly business. Join a very brave 10-year-old, as he races against the elements and discovers a whole world of stories, all held in a milk-float’s worth of objects.

Boats

“A zephyr of pure originality and lyricism flows through this work....which simply carries one into a vivid and fantastical world.”

Boats is classic storytelling where the magic unfolds in front of the audience. The sound effects are created live, a boat is cut from bread, a bird tied from rope, a circus hides in a jacket, and finally a storm is made with a teacup.

Helena and the Journey of the Hello

THE ARTS CENTRE MELBOURNE, AUGUST 2011

“Helena and the Journey of the Hello is wonderful, in the truest sense of that word–filled with strange and intriguing delight. It's bursting with images and ideas...”

Helena and the Journey of the Hello is a kid’s picture book tale in a crossed line conversation with contemporary times. Children and adults alike are amazed at what is possible with a mobile phone, a coat and an old iron bed as they are taken on the journey of the hello.

The Falling Room and the Flying Room

“Puppets, props and set are all wonderfully loopy, and the puppetry itself - whether physical or virtual - offers moments of genuine surprise and joy”

The Falling Room and the Flying Room is about the power of imagination. Using contemporary multimedia and electronics, digital puppetry and powerful performances to create magic , the show tells the story of a boy who lives in an imaginary world of mechanical wizardry but emerges from it to embrace his family.

The Waltzing Tree

“An amazing performance"
"Absolutely stunning...Fast moving, engaging, topical, relevant."

Stranded on either side of the planet are two love-locked ancient trees. Across the seas and down through the ages they have been sharing their secrets and their feelings by shaping the winds, speaking a language which only trees can understand. The day has come when they can no longer stand to be apart.

As everyone knows trees can't walk. But maybe, just maybe they can waltz!

The Gatekeeper

“Funny and thought provoking; able to engage with the whole audience.”

A whole heap of horse-play in a play about a horse, and the man that wants to be one!

Terrapin’s digital puppetry show is about chasing your dreams. Puppetry, acrobatics, magic tricks and things you should not do at home with elastic, weave a spell-binding journey for young and old. Digital projections in places you would not normally expect; saddles and oscilloscopes, balloons and hay; these are but bits of the world with which our characters must do battle.

The Gatekeeper is about that most beautiful of all adventures; the adventure of learning to be you.

Explosion Therapy

“Visual tricks, virtual and real, abound….Cartoon capers come to life. Puppetry, film, animation, sound, music and technical elements work as one with live action. Technically, visually, aurally and performatively, this is a marvellous work.”

Ever wondered what happens when a clown explodes?

Explosion Therapy is an intoxicating world where the characters leap between a film screen and the stage, as though the two spaces are one.
It borrows from the world of cartoons and vaudeville. Objects and puppets emerge from the most unlikely places as the entire theatre comes alive.

When the Pictures Came

A collaboration with the Children’s Art Theatre of China

When the Pictures Came is an absurd and comic story about four hapless characters that have to learn to work together to overcome a formidable opponent. This fearsome foursome find themselves flung into an obscure battle with an omnipotent machine. Slapstick, puppets, and innovative digital techniques make this more-than-ridiculous cartoon-style story one for the whole family.

When the Pictures Came is a cross-cultural collaboration between Terrapin and the Children’s Art Theatre of China, in association with the Lakeside Arts Centre, UK, and Reckless Moments.
